KLANG: The Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) denied that there was any oppression, neglect and mistreatment at the Klang Cat Park as has gone viral on social media since yesterday.

The mayor of Klang, Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan, said her party took the allegations seriously and was satisfied with the level of cleanliness and comfort of the cats after conducting a survey in the park.

According to him, some improvements will be made immediately by MBDK and will be assisted by Sime Darby Property in the near future for the comfort of the cats in the park.

"I appreciate the public's concern in this issue, but some of the things being spread are not true at all, especially the cats that are claimed to be hungry and abandoned.

"In fact, there is a large number of cat deaths which is not true and only one died (that too was placed outside the park by an unknown individual) after I myself conducted a survey with Sime Darby this morning," he said in a media statement.

He added that his party will install a net to avoid hot conditions in the park.

Sime Darby also said that they will build a porch for the comfort of the cats in the park and will also pay attention to the care and feeding of the animals.

He also explained that cats are 'territorial' where they need a large area to do various things without any restrictions and they will be released in the morning.

"We are planning to collaborate with volunteers who are interested in cat care since the community's support for the Klang Cat Park is so positive and proud," he said.

For the record, this Klang Cat Park was built by Sime Darby Property but has been handed over to MBDK.

Its operation and maintenance is under the responsibility of the MBDK Health Department.

Earlier, the Malaysian Animal Association (Animal Malaysia) urged the party responsible for the cat park to provide an explanation regarding allegations that there was neglect of the animal's welfare.

It follows a viral video lasting more than a minute that shows the frustration of a visitor regarding the condition of the cats in the park who he claims are not awake.
