SHAH ALAM, 7 FEB: At least 15 names that will be proposed to fill the positions of members of the Royal City Council of Klang (MBDK) have a minimum educational qualification of a diploma or higher.

Dato' Menteri Besar said his party took note of the order of His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor who suggested that the councilors of the local authorities also be made up of professionals, not just politicians.

"This professional means that they have a degree or at least a diploma and are involved in a certain field whether it is management, engineering, business, administration or scientists and so on.

"We will present (the list). From the current list, there are actually almost 15 to 16 people with a diploma qualification and above and some have a doctor of philosophy (PhD) degree.

"So we are positive. "Perhaps Klang (MBDK) will set an example by placing those who have certain professional qualifications either in the professional certification level up to PhD," said Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj previously in his order in conjunction with the MBDK declaration ceremony suggested that the councilors of the local authorities should also be made up of professionals.

His Majesty said that at least 50 percent of the overall quota of councilors should be filled by professionals from various fields, not just politicians.

His Majesty's order also required councilors to describe the composition and population of the races residing in Klang so that all races are represented in equal numbers.

On February 2, 15 individuals were sworn in as Klang local authority councilors led by Klang District Elder who is also former State Secretary Dato' Mohammed Khusrin.

Earlier Amirudin led a line of members of the State Government Meeting Council (MMKN) to sign the Corruption Free Pledge (IBR) of the Selangor State Secretary's Office at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building here today.

It is an obligation to eradicate the symptoms of corruption and misuse of power in administration.
